When translated to English, Mujerave literally means ladybird. The name evokes not only the human-environment nexus, but also reflects the reality that women’s empowerment—helping women soar—is a successful strategy for improving health and education outcomes the world over. To learn more about this strategy, see our section on Gender Mainstreaming.
The image of a woman carrying the tinaja (traditional water jug) was chosen for the logo because it reminds us women in Guatemala are couriers of extremely important cultural and linguistic knowledge. Women also "carry" local expertise on a variety of topics including family health, resource availability/scarcity, local ecosystems, and the cultivation of traditional and medicinal plants.
